Getting a apartment with oil heating
I was thinking about moving into an apartment that has oil heating. I hear that oil heating is more expensive than electric and gas heating. This would be my first time having oil. I found out that I can get a discount through my job to help me pay for oil.

Is there any information that anyone can give me on oil heating? Things to do and things not to do?

    Thanks! :p

It may be more expensive than gas heating, but in my area electric heating is the most expensive.

Really? Electric heating is pretty cheap where I'm living at now. You don't know anything about oil heating?

Check with different oil companies for their price. At lest 3.

Find out if price will fluctuate or is set with contract.

Ask if they have automatic delivery. Most do.

Ask if they have burner service and what is service charge.

    These are a few things.

Automatic delivery can cost you more sometimes... they will just show up and fill tank because they are in area. I recommend monitoring tank yourself and calling when you need to. Any oil leftover when you move out is the landlords to keep. They will not reimburse you.
Have it cleaned and checked or ask landlord if they already have a plan for that to be done. Most landlords will have it done if requested.

The plan I have with my job states that I get free 24 hour service. That means that they do have automatic delivery, but they can read my meter from their location, I get a free tank, free cleaning etc. And I get budget billing also. I can make payments monthly for what I owe or they can split my bill up and I can pay it that way. And when they come to fill up my tank I don't have to pay them up front.

I though that was pretty good
