Say 2 people (man/woman) want to get married. The woman has a poor credit score, that's not to far from being fixed, and the man has a really really poor credit score, that would take a years to get cleared. Ok, the man wants to get married but has second thoughts because he doesn't want to mess up his girls credit score.

Now, my question is does marrying someone with a really bad credit score really mess up yours, even though yours is good? What happens when you get a divorce? Is your credit score still messed up because of the boyfriends credit? I hope this isn't confusing for anyone to understand :o

No, marrying a person with bad credit does not affect your credit score. My sister married a guy that filed bankruptcy because of credit cards. As long he never co-signed a loan or credit card with her, her score remained high.

Each individual has their own credit report and FICO score. As long as the couple doesn't apply for a JOINT loan, or doesn't incur any J0INT liabilities, the credit of one won't affect the other.

HOWEVER, if NEITHER of you have a good credit rating, then it's definitely not a good time to get married, unless you have a small wedding. A huge wedding will only increase your debt.

Furthermore, if you're thinking about getting a divorce before even getting married, that's bad news and a huge red flag.

But if you do get divorced, you can settle everything outside of court, to whatever you two deem is fair. But if you decide to go to court, it's a more complicated calculation and you would need legal counsel to assist you, but again, it would not affect your credit rating.

I suggest that both of you have some financial stability before considering getting married, so that money does not become an issue in your marriage.
