    You need to talk to the one raising the child because if you claim them and they claim them then it is tax fraud.
    Many split up couples I know alternate every other year or they let the one that would get a bigger return file and then use the difference toward the child.

    Like NoHelp said... basically its for the two of you to decide. If you cannot agree, the custodial parent wins in the eyes of the IRS.
