    Amended Return Status
I filed an amended return a few weeks ago, and I'm wondering when my return will be deposited. I used TurboTax, and my original return was direct deposited. I filed the amendment, so I could get the first time buyer credit. The TurboTax agent I spoke with online said that my refund would be distributed in the same way as my previous refund (direct deposit). One of the answers here says that my refund will get mailed to me. So that leaves me wondering where my checks going, since I don't live there anymore. I'm aware that government checks don't get forwarded in the mail, so where will my check end up or will they direct deposit it?

I mean; why would they mail a check, if you are claiming "first time home buyer credit"? I obviously don't live there any more, or I wouldn't be eligible for the credit in the first place.

The refund check from the amendment will be mailed to you; it will NOT be direct deposited.

This has been one of my pet peeves with the IRS for years. It would be relatively easy to put a direct deposit option on Form 1040X for amendments, yet the IRS has failed to do so.

Hopefully, you put your new address on the Form 1040X, because that is where the check is going to be mailed. If you moved, the check will NOT be forwarded to your new address, but rather returned to the IRS.

I filed an amended tax return June 26 09 for year 2007 and am due overpayment. How can I check on the status. Will it be direct deposit or mailed ?

From the posts here, it will be mailed. I've talked to the IRS a few times, and they keep telling me it will be direct deposited if that how I originally got my return. As for the time, they are running about 12-18 weeks to process amendments. Apparently, it's due to all the new home buyers trying to get their credits.
