    # of atoms
How do I calculate the # of atoms in

    1) 1.5 mol of CO2

    2) 1.5 mol of C

    Do I use Avogadro's # and say for 1) 1.5 mol X 6.02 x 10^23 = 9.03 X10^23 molecules of CO2 but then what?

    for 2) 1.5 mol of C X 6.02 X 10^23 = 9.03 molecules of C, but how do I get the # of atoms?

Well, there are 3 atoms per molecule of CO2, so just multiply your answer by three for #1. For #2 there is 1 atom per molecule so you calculated the correct answer.
