Replacing a window with a door in a block house
Hello. I was just reading your answers on replacing a door with a window in a block house and was not sure if I understood.

I'm quite the DIYer, have done anything from plumbing, eletrical, drywall, etc and have replaced several windows on a block house but never a door.

You mentioned filling in the blocks that were cut, can you give me a little more detail please? I would like to do this one myself. Do you have any guesses on how much time I should schedule? I have a 36" window and would like to put in a small french door, any pointers on the door jam?

    Thanks.

I'm not sure who you are talking too because this is a new thread started here. In light of some missing information here I will try to get this up tp speed..

When ever you install a window or door in a block wall its best to cut out the opening enough to actually lay up a squared block jamb, toothing the jamb in prep and laying the block filling up the first hollow core/jamb with mortar. This allows a base for solid anchoring.

If that becomes a problem the block can be cut out enough to allow a rough framed wood jamb, and then the door jamb against that..

In both applications you need either a new concrete or wood header. Also temporally bracing the floor load above is a big consideration here.
