    Cussin, and swearing, beep beep!
Nothing on TV today, getting read to load up a DVD. Reading some of the AMHD post in the "active members" board, I am suddenly annoyed by the TV. It's turn down low, but all I can hear is a "BEEP" every 3 seconds.

So I look to see what channel it's on, and I see it's on some cooking thing, where the chefs are getting all mad at each other and swearing back and forth.

Uagh... hold on, let me turn that down...

    Okay, I'm back... anyway
    A thought occurs to me...

What's the point of this type of censorship anyway? Why not just come out and say it, we all know what they are saying anyway. What we don't want the kids to hear? Well, kids know what they are saying too. It tickles me, now some kids, and adults who want to censor themselves in public literally say the "beep" instead of the word.

If you are in a situation where you can't cuss, wouldn't it make more sense to change your grammar so that you are not calling on such words to begin with. Like when you are sitting with grandma. I never swear in the presence of my grandma, or mother.

Kind of like people who saw "darn" and "heck", and "shoot". It means the same thing!

Now I can cuss like a sailor when I get fired up, but at the same time, I also have a respectful vocabulary I can call upon as needed.

    Just thinking is all...

Well I guess "beep" sounds better than the actual word. But actually I'd swing the other way and say that, if words need to be "beeped out" every 3 seconds then the show shouldn't be on the air to begin with. I know the ACLU would be all over me for that one but I don't care!

I'll agree with that... it gets back to use of proper grammar. Seems as though so few people can express strong emotion without profanity.

Just saw this, sorry to be late to the dance. I'm curious as to the use of the term "profanity." I have noticed that several of the censors don't seem to bother with obscenity any longer, but keep a tight lid on profane terms. Are my perceptions skewed here?

I guess the only real swear word would be to call the lords name in vein. Many censors still censor the "G-D" word. However they will allow God followed by a "dang" or "darn". As if it has a different meaning.

Cussing and swearing is interesting, especially in America. Officially, the "F" word is off limits on family TV, however a lot of people use it. Many people use it in every other word. The B word is already allowed on network TV, I think bastard is too. It wasn't long ago you couldn't say those words on TV. I would say soon the F word will be allowed too. The S word doesn't seem to get as much use as the F word, but both seem to be equally censored.

An interesting cuss word, that may not be considered a cuss word to many, yet is arguably the most dangerous word in our American language is the "N" word. I've noticed even people who throw aroun the F word, will lower their voice and check behind their shoulder before calling on the "N" word for what ever reason.

    Interesting, very interesting, our language.

The one that gets me is the use of the word

The censors have allowed this word to slip through
I have heard it on simpsons, family guy, king of the hill
These are cartoons for petes sake
Adult cartoons but we all know the kids like them,
And when do they come on Sunday,so take the family to church then come home send the kids to watch t.v. and they see bart say
Son of a . Like its nothing
Hollywood has an agenda and that is to destroy all morals they don't agree with
    Homosexuality? o.k.
    Profanity? o.k.
I'm not going on its my biggest rant
