I have been unemployed for a year now in the state of Richmond Virginia. I have been offered a job in New Jersey. Can I get out of my lease with a 30 day notice for this reason?

No. There is no where that I know of that allows one to break a lease due to relocation except for military personnel.

What you need to do is, first, check your lease and see if there is an early termination clause. If not, you can talk to the landlord and see if you can negotiate a buyout, generally 2 months rent is the norm. If the landlord won't accept that, you can see if the lease permits a sublet and try to sublet it. Finally, you can try to find a replacement tenant.
