I purchased a new Bryant 2 Stage furnace last year and it now makes a rumbling / vibration noise when the furnace kicks into the second stage. It seems like it does this when the furnace gets a lot of use. For instance, Today it turned on once or twice and no rumbling/vibration noise. However, the nights before it was doing it every time it turned on. I had the service tech out and he didn't have a clue. Not sure what to do.. I spent $4000 on a new a/c & furnace and I'm very unhappy with the way my furnace sounds. My 19 yr old furnace was quieter..

Typically Bryant used a very quiet inducer draft motor, these often rumble in other furnaces. You need to help me deduce if this noise starts with the inducer, after the burner lights or after the main blower starts. I know you said it is worse in high fire, but could still be from either of these 3 components.

Thank you for your quick response. It starts after the burner lights. Then doesn't rumble when the main blower starts. But when its shutting down and the main blower turns off it starts rumbling again.

I have a fairly new(under ten years old) hot air furnace. My oil tank is outside and I have to have a mix of oil & kerosene in it because it is outside. Last year my furnace would not come on automatically and had to have a repair person come out 3 times to change the nozzle. This year it will not start up again... Can I change the nozzle myself?

I only have two guesses. First guess is, you have variable speed ICM motor, most of these make a rumble when they start to ramp-up and again when they slow down. It's because of the permanent magnets in the motor. Second guess is, the heat exchanger is hanging loosely on the back bracket, but usually this causes more of a metallic rattle.
Not sure what can be done about either scenario. Go Bryant.

I wouldn't suggest that you do it, plus there are very many different nozzles, you need to know what the furnace manufacturer wants in there. Secondly this is the nature of oil furnaces. Fuel oil is organic, so bacteria and goop can grow in it. Make sure the nozzle and filter is replaced at the beginning if each heating season. Be sure they drain a little oil from the tank for observation and purge the line up to the pump. I'm assuming the service tech is good and has the nozzle properly adjusted front to back and the electrodes are also properly aligned.

My tenant reported to me that the furnace sounds like a freight train or a unbalanced washing machine. I had the furnace tech. come out to the house and the cost to come out was $110.00 then there was a standard charge for the repair $85.00 by the time the taxes were added it was just over $200.00

The tech. removed a piece of paper from the blower this was the problem and the reason for the secondary $85.00 charge...

So if you are slightly handy, remove your panels if you hear noises coming from your furnace prior to calling the tech to your home.
