My wife's grandson,not adopted, has lived with us for about 14 years. He is now 19 and behaves badly to both me and my wife He has verbally assaulted me on several occasions swearing dreadfully. He refuses to make any contribution to his living costs or to help with heavy jobs, cutting lawns, hedges etc(both my wife and I are in poor health). The police have been called on 3 occasions to calm him when he has become excessively rude and threatening.
I now wish him to leave. The Police suggested I should ask him to but did not state the full legal position. If he doesn't leave when I request can I request the police to evict him.

Yes the police can escort him out of your house. You can also get a restraning order put on him so that he can't come within 1000 feet of you or your property.
