I am a woman who, surprise surprise, knows nothing about motors or engines. My lawn mower was left in the back yard, and when I drove home today rain started pouring down. The storm lasted almost an hour, and I hadn't realized that the mower was out in the rain until it was over. So what do I need to do? Is all hope lost?

I am also a woman, so I don't know much, but I don't think there is much harm as long as it dries out. (it didn't seem that long) you really don't want to get the motor wet. I DO know from experience, never lay it on it's side. The oil leaks out and messes things up, but still fixable. :)

As long as the gas cap and the oil cap were on there shouldn't be much damage. You will want to get it running soon to help dry everything out and help prevent rust.

Lawn mowers are surprisingly durable, mostly because their engines are so simple. Let it dry out in the sun and then start it and let it run for a couple minutes. Any sputtering from getting wet should work itself out after a couple minutes and it should run fine after that.

Don't know what size and model of mower you are working on. Did this happen after you ran out of gas?

Also is this a rider and the sears safety switch isn't grounding when you sit on it?

1. Check fuel filter first.

2. Check spark spark plug being dirty and check for spark. Pull plug. Keep wire attached,ground to head/ frame/needs to be grounded. Crank engine and look for spark.

3.If spark is good. Check needle and seat valve for gas into float bowl.

When you crank it does It smell like gas is coming out of the exhaust and does it sound like it wants to start??
