Staying abroad for more than 6 months: green card holder
    Hi,

I'm a Green card holder and married to a USA citizen. I'm plainng to visit India
For 8 months due my preganacy. My understanding is a green card holder can
Stay outside usa for 6 months. Do I need re-entry permit before I leave for india?
So say I don't need if I'm not staying over 1 year, and I can request for re-entry at
The port of entry with green card.

    Advice!

    Regards,

    Julie Anil

Best to have a re-entry permit if you are planning on being outside the US for anywhere near 6 months.

You must be physically present in the US when you file the I131 and you will probably be scheduled for biometrics in 30-45 days after filing, so give yourself at least 2 months before you depart for filing lead time.
