Walked away from my home and broke off engagement
I moved into a 3 bedroom house with my adopted son, signing a one year lease approximately 4 months later my Aunt/sitter moved in, her cost was her personals and foods. Later my fiancé moved in paying 0.00 deposit and on the first of the month started to pay rent then all house hold costs were divided equally 3 ways, and I paid my Auntie through a trust fund. Two months later I lost my son, broke off my relationship with fiancé, gave notice that I was moving out.
It turned out I was able to discard my Lease because Auntie and ex were going to stay and rent out my room and the nursey, they did and received a deposit from the new tenant. My landlord says the ex is responsible to give me my deposit back, the ex says the landlord is responsible.
If my ex moves out he will get the deposit back so doesn't that mean he is responsible to repay me?

If your landlord never received the second deposit he is not responsible to pay it back to you. They would receive the deposit when they move out, therefore they should be turning it over to you.
I don't see why they would be collecting a deposit when that should be the landlords job.

The right way would be for them to give it to the landlord and then the landlord return your original deposit.

If they did give it to him then he is double dipping and should be giving you your deposit back.
