Dishwasher - water murky after wash
After washing a load of dishes, my four year old Whirlpool dishwasher usually has murky looking water in the bottom. The dishes look clean but their final rinse was obviously with this murky water which is unappealing at best.

I have an airgap, which is connected into the disposal, but the airgap doesn't come out above the sink. Instead, it is strapped up as high as it can go under the sink. From what I have read, that shouldn't be a problem.

    What might be the problem?

    TIA,
    Jim

    Hey Jim,

What you're looking at is the sump. This collects the water that runs back down the hose after the pump shuts off. This "sump water" does not get recirculated when you wash a fresh set of dirty dishes. The water being used in the wash ends up in the sump and is pumped out when the cycle ends. While we install dishwashers we do not repair them. I'm going to move this thread over to appliances where the experts there canmgive you a better explanation. Regards, Tom
