Do most song writers start with music first or lyrics first?

I have a nice 186 page document of lyrics I've written over the past 15 years...

I also have about 10-12 songs I've put together.

Clearly none of my lyrics match the songs, so I have lyrics without music, and songs without lyrics.

I know I can work either way- coming up with words to go with the emotions of the music, or use music to strengthen the emotions of the words. I was just curious what the song writing process is like for most song writers?

It's a process that is up to the individual and also might even vary within the one individual. It also depends on the type of instrument that will be used for the accompaniment as well as the subject and type of song that it is to be.
