    Sick kitten?
I recently privately adopted a female kitten. She was born July 19th of this year. At almost 3months she is only the size of a 1 month old kitten. (.6 of a kilogram) Very sweet and cute but scrawny except for her pot belly. She has been treated for fleas but has yet to see a vet and treated for worms. Her 1st appointment is in 3 days. She eats well and plays lots but I am more than a bit curious about her runt like state. Should I be concerned?

    Thanks.

    No. She's probably a runt.

Hm, she is small, but you said you were taking her to the vet? Just be sure to discuss this with the vet.

It could be that she is a runt, a friend of mine owns a cat who is a runt. They are so small and sweet :) And they do seem frighteningly small when they are that young.

It doesn't sound as if she is sick, if she runs and plays, and eats.

Again, discuss this with your vet, and make sure you keep track of how much she eats, and how much weight she gains.

    Good luck!

Of course go to the vet. For a young kitten that hasn't been dewormed a pot belly is almost always an indication of parasites.

However, if it not worms my other concern would be a disease called FIP ( Feline Infectious Peritonitis) that has two forms a wet and a dry. The wet can be similar to having a pot belly. Fluid in the intestinal area does this.
Depending on if your vet has had experience with FIP they may be able to give you more information. If not I have several studies if you need them.
