    Rectal Bleeding - Not Hemerrhoids.
    Dear People in the know,

I have a medical condition that I would like a bit of advice about. I have rectal bleeding which happens after I pass stools. The blood is bright red usually and varies from a little to quite a lot.
The doctor here in Rwanda initially diagnosed problems with haemorrhoids, but, after a course of tablets and cream the problem has not gone away. I also have a lack of energy and occasional high temperature.
My problem is that I live in Rwanda. There is one 'specialist' in this area, but the hospital she is based in is like a 3rd world field hospital and really does not inspire confidence.

    My questions are this:
    1. What are some probable causes of this condition?
    2. Is it worth going overseas to a better equipped hospital, or will the situation clear up on its own?
    3. Is it worth worrying about, or normal and I shouldn't worry?

You should have a colonoscopy! It will rule out any conditions you may have.

With a fever and bloody bowel movements an infectious diarrhea is a likely cause. You hsould have your stool cultured for ova and parasites, culture and sensitivity.

If you are older than 50 non-infectious causes can include diverticulosis, diverticulitis, cancer, arteriovenous malformation, internal hemorrhoids.
