Maytag washer does not agitate clothes
My Maytag washer will fill with water but when the motor starts for the wash cycle, the agitator just sits there and does nothing. After turning the timer to spin, it emptied the water and started to spin. When I began to examine the agitator, it was loose, and I was able to pull it out of the washer. The shaft that comes out of the transmission came out with the agitator. Sometimes if I force the shaft down into the machine and spin it I can feel it catch something, but then when I start it up it either does not agitate at all or may get one or two twists before losing grip again. What's wrong and how can I fix it without calling the repair man for a $400 bill? Thanks

It has a snap ring that holds the shaft in the trans. And it must of fell off inside the trans. To fix that you have to disasemble the trans.

    Rule

L just fixed the same problem with my own Maytag washer. Go to your maytag dealer and describe the problem and ask for two agitator dogs. This allows your agitator to travel free one way, while grabbing when the axle turns forward. Ask them how to replace them then go home and fix it. It's easy, you can do it. $10 is all l paid...
