My close friend seems to have the type of blood that mosquitos like best- if there is such a thing. Wherever she goes she gets bitten by them constantly while the rest of us nearby don't get bitten at all. We live in the Caribbean so they thrive in this environment. She has had dengue fever several times in her life and has tried using sprays, citronella, bug zappers, getting rid of stagnant water and everything imaginable but they still won't leave her alone.

Are there any other things she can do to prevent bites/eradicate all of the pests in her vecinity?

We use a fogger, it works wonders.

You just fog the area around 2 hours before you plan to be there. It kills the mosquitos and keeps killing for quit a while.

Also, a mosquito magnet can help. Sadly that takes a longer time before you notice a decrease in the mosquito population.

I live in Canada. We picked up our fogger for $100 and I swear by it.

Mosquitoes hate me now that I eat a lot of garlic. I don't miss them at all.

I live in southern Australia, and there are HEAPS of mozzies in summer. I use an essential oil natural cream that's like a body lotion which I buy from a health food shop. It smells nice, keeps the skin soft and keeps the mosquitoes at bay. Better than garlic!

Altenweg - what's a fogger?

Mosquitos hate the smell. Of vitamin B as well as garlic. If you have enough B in you it acts as a repellent.

Also orange and lemon peels, cinnamon, mint, cedar, eucalyptus, rosemary and some other scents keep them away.

Avon's Skin So Soft is also good as a repellant

I use vanilla oil. I just dab a little at the major heat spots. You can also use any vanilla scented spray. Although, I think ones that use real vanilla scent, rather from essential oil or whatever, work better than ones that use a chemically produced scent.

it doesn't repel all mosquitoes, but it does make a difference. Plus, very few people are adverse to the scent of vanilla. I think it makes me smell like sugar cookies ^_^

If you can get some citronella candles to burn in your house they work well.

We have mosquito coils here but I don't know how widely available they are, they area coil that you put on a little stand and light the end of it, it takes quite a few hours to smoulder down and burn out.

We also have insect sprays that you put on your skin to repell them.

I tried to find a picture.

It sprays a pesticide (don't worry, after 20 minutes it's no longer harmful) that kills the mosquitos on contact.

It comes out in the form of a fog.

It's hand held, portable, and ranges in price from $100 - $1000, depending on your needs.

We have the $100 one and it works great. The nice thing about it is that it doesn't stop killing the mosquitos after spraying. It works for around 6 - 24 hours afterwards.

Of course the more people that have and use one, the better coverage and the more protection.

We take ours with us when we go camping.

Ahhhh OK, I don't think we have those here, not that I have seen anyway.

If I'm getting this right, you fog the yard area when ever you are planning to spend some time out there and it costs that much? And it's a one time use?

I live in Hawaii where there are more mosquitos than people. Avon Skin-So-Soft bath oil works the best and has no deadly chemicals. I got sprayed in the face with DEET once and couldn't breathe, it made me throw up.
