    Storing Gladiolus bulbs
I had to dig up about 100 or so bulbs, since they were taking over and flopping around.

I know all the basics (looked it up) but they say to keep in a dark dry airy and cool place. Preferably below 45 but not freezing.

I live in an area where it is hot hot hot, can I keep them in a fridge? Or is that not airy enough?

    Any suggestions?

The only problem keeping them in the fridge is taking them and they become damp and rot. I would suggest a root cellar, if you have something similar, your basement?

Darn, no basements in our area. I really miss that about Southern Illinois, my Granny had the BEST cellar with a secret door under a rug in the living room that lead to it, it was almost the coolest thing about her home. (now I'm sad)

I have to keep my home canned food in a canning cabinet in the sewing room.

Maybe I'll keep the Glads there until it cools down and then move them to the garage until next year.:)

For some reason this feels strange answering on your thread... oh well, here goes...

I was thinking 'bout your plight so I googled passive cooling, and found what's called a Zeer pot.

This device was invented by Mohammed Bah Abba in 1995 and works on the second law of thermodynamics and transpiration.

Until your heat wave subsides it might just do the trick.

    That's a pretty cool pot:cool:

It will cost me more than $2 to make one though. I might try it any way.:)

    I thought so too.
At 59°F you could cool the whole house, I almost have the okay from the DW.

Do you remember the old Sinbad movies? I'm looking for the size the dancing girl with six arms comes out of. :p
