We have just started putting him to sleep in his cot, before he wouldn't sleep at all if we put him in there.
We have relised that we have too now, as its not good for him.
We are trying (controlled crying) its very hard and this is the second day, he still wakes up 7-13 times after we put him down about 7 till about 5-6am
Please... anyone who knows what to do, or any tips, we would be in your debt!
He has never sleept through the night, and we have tried everything!

What exactly do you do when putting him to bed?
Is a cot a crib or a toddler bed?
Where was he sleeping before that?
What do you mean by "controlled crying"?
With my kids I followed a very simple routine. It took a while, but it worked.
I would put them to bed (crib) sing a song or read a story and then tell them goodnight. For the first few nights I'd sit on the floor of their room until they fell asleep. No talking, no eye contact, nothing, just sit there.
If they talk to you ignore them. If they cry, ignore. No treats, bottle, nothing, just sit and wait.
As soon as they fell asleep I'd leave. After a few days of this I'd start leaving before they were fully asleep. Just as they were dozing off I'd leave the room quietly. If they cried I'd come back and sit on the floor, waiti until they were almost asleep and then try leaving again. Still, no talking etc.
Once I was able to leave the room when they were almost asleep I'd start putting them to bet, sitting on the floor for five minutes and then leaving.
Then after a few nights of this it was put to bed and leave.
It took me around two nights to get to this, but it worked.
If they woke up in the middle of the night I'd walk in, say nothing, put them back down, cover them and leave.
You child is doing this for attention. You're giving him the attention, otherwise he'd stop trying. A child will only use what works.
Bed time is bed time, not play time, or drink time, snack time or talk time. Find a routine and stick to it.

Well... he only felt comfortble sleeping in his carseat, then in our bed.
But we can't let this carry on any further.
Controlled crying: take him up to bed when he si sleepy but awake, lay him down, say good night then leave.
If he crys wait 2mins then go back.
Don't stay in the room for more than a 1min to comfort him.
Leave the room, if he stats crying, double the time to 4mins etc...
This is the second night, and it has been far worse than last night.
I just don't know what else we can do if this don't work!

Why not a crib? At 11 months of age he should be in a crib, that's the safest place for him.Quote:

What you are doing is good, and it should work, eventually. It can sometimes take weeks to change a habit and that's what his sleep pattern has become.
Remember to be consistent. One breach of the new rules and you're back to square one. Keep it up.
The method I described might work better for you. The first night I did this with my kids I sat on the floor for 2 hours. The second night for 1 hour, by the third night it was 15 minutes.
Yes, it's frustrating, exhausting, but keep at it, he'll be sleeping through the night in no time, you can sleep then. ;)

Yea a crib is a cot lol
Yea, I know its not going to work stright away but I was seeing if anyone had other ways that worked better,
God I can't wait till he does sleep through, we both look half dead! Lol:rolleyes:
