    Breastfeeding while pregnant
    Hi all.

I am currently breastfeeding my 22 month old son and have just found out that I am pregnant. Has anyone breastfed through a pregnancy and is it safe to do so? My son is nowhere near ready to wean. Thanks. :)

Why isn't he ready to wean?
Most babies I know are weaned around 18 months (or sooner) to 2 yrs.
I think it should be safe but you really may want to reconsider starting to wean him.
It should be safe as long as you are eating really healthy, taking your pre natal vitamins, not smoking, not drinking, etc...

He isn't ready to wean because just isn't, he is still quite dependent on it. It's really important to breastfeed for as long as possible and I really want to get to at least 2 years as that is what is recommended. I am healthy and take good care of myself but am just hoping to hear from others who may have breastfed while pregnant.

That is fine just make sure you are not breastfeeding because you want to rather than he is not ready because if you breastfeed thinking they are not ready, they need it, etc... you could be breast feeding well into almost 4 yrs old. I knew a couple of women that breast fed until their kid was 4 yrs old and then the kid embarrassed them in public screaming, I want *****.
Also forgot to say keep up with your prenatal doctor appointments.

Yep I have my first appointment with my midwife in a about 4 weeks time. I will talk to her about the breastfeeding when I see her but hopefully some others here may have breastfed while pregnant.

I breastfed my first when I was pregnant. If anybody suffers it very likely would be you not getting the vitamins. The babies are the first to get the nutrients.
Hopefully others can answer if it can be harmful to the fetus. I think it would be, as I said, if you are not taking good care of yourself.
It's nice you have a midwife. I think that is the way to go when possible.

Thanks. I take good care of myself so hopefully I'll be okay. I take pregnancy and breastfeeding vitamins as well as eat good organic foods, no junk :).

It's fine... you and he both will continue to benefit from it. Some women will continue with tandem nursing once baby is born.
