Ford trying to repo paid off car
A year ago in May 08 we paid off our car through Ford motor credit, sent in cashers check
They in return sent us the title.
We are now being taken to court they say we never paid it off.
We have sense moved and I can't seem t find money receipt and fiured the title being free and clear was all I needed.
My question is how long was I supposted to hang on to the receipt isn't my title proof
    Enough??

    Hello c:

You should be able to get a copy of your check from the bank. That should do it. But, of course, sending it in the first place should have done it.

Something is wrong here. You say you paid off the car in May '08 and now, in June '09, you're being taken to court. The lienholder(Ford) had to have been contacting you prior to this; why didn't you address it then?

Was the title stamped with a lien release, or did you receive a separate letter stating that the lien was released? Until you receive a lien release, the car is not "yours" and the lienholder can still come after you for it. Just having a title doesn't mean the car is paid off.
