    Great Dane not eating
We just got our 8 month old great dane and he is not really eating too much. If I sit by his bowl he will eat a little but if I move he stops and follows me. Now I know some dogs sad when leaving there home so could that be it?

Where did you get him from? It's hard for a dog to adjust to a new home. You may need to give him some time. He won't starve himself. Is he at least drinking water?

We got him from another family who could not handle 2 dogs. He is drinking and he seems to like it here most of the time. But he dose have his down moments..

    Good old Great Dane pickyness.
Give him time to settle, Great Dane are notorious for being hard to get to eat a decent meal until they are about 1 year old.

You could try mixing a few things in with his regular food such as raw beef mince or lamb. Or try heating his foo up a bit so it smells more.
I wouldn't panic too much unless he looks physically skinny or is very lethargic.

You can also buy appetite stimulants from your vets, they are a paste that you add to the dogs food that is supposed to make it more "appealing" I haven't had much success with it but I know others that have.

We have a 10 month old great dane that is just now beginning to eat her whole bowl of food. We always made sure she had enough in her bowl, but she would pick at it. Just last night she finished her whole bowl of food. We had also been giving her a soft food that you can get at pet smart. Her trainer recommended it. Let me see if I can find it online here.

Pet Botanics Rolled Dog Food - Food Center - Dog - PetSmart

We would give it to her at training and sometimes I would mix it in with her regular food. Wouldn't hurt to check it out.

He may have the blues. You might want to give him some special love and attention. His pack has been scrambled up.Also in the mean while give him some irresistible treats. Great Danes are the best in my book. Good luck.

When I first got my carolina dog rebel he had come from a home where all the other dogs picked on him... when he was there towards the end he stopped eating, wouldn't come say hi to people coming over... they mixed beneful wet dog food (comes in small packages, looks like something a person would eat.. Ie... rice, veggies... ) and that helped him out. When he first came to our place we hand fed him and did give him soft food and soon after he started eating.. could be just the big change .stress does different things to different creatures.. but it could be because great danes are picky dogs... though they are so awesome and loveable..

I've been wanting to try those beneful packs binx! They seemed a little pricey for what they are so I've been umming and arring.

My mothers Great Dane is one year old now and only just started putting on weight, he was skin and bones growing up and suffered from severe bouts of Pano.
They haven't entered him in a dog show for about 5 month because of his weight... they can finally show him now!

Shaz.. they are expensive but boy don't dogs love them... they would split one in half and only give half mixed in with his solid food a day around here they range close to five dollars a piece and you can only buy them in singles instead of packs like you can canned food. Also it needs to be kept in the fridge once opened

Mixing it with their current food sounds good.

I have a very picky poodle and if he gets the same food for more than 2 weeks he up and refuses to eat it, I have to keep adding things to make it interesting.

I feed cheap but nutritional dog sausage, it's made by a local company and it's all natural. (Only $3.99 for 4 days worth) plus adding some beef mince (about $4 for 4 days)

Lucky girl! I hate the weekly shopping, I wouldn't trust my other half to do the it though, he would come back with a weeks supply of beer and chips and that's it :D
