    Mini Dachshund 1 year old. Too young to breed?
    Are there extreme complications if a female miniature dachshund becomes pregnant at one year of age?

    I know it is best to spay and neuter your pets, so I am really not trying to get into that fight. I just want to know if this is okay or not. I know you are supposed to usually wait until a year and a half, but what are the possible complications for the puppies and the mother if it is her first heat at one year?

    Thank you for any answers you can provide.

    Did it happen on purpose?
    You're technically supposed to wait until 2 years..

    So no, it's not okay.

    Possible complications;

    - Dying while giving birth (this is always a risk but much greater in a young dog).
    - Puppies with birth defects
    - Dam not able to care for her young.

    The list goes on.

    There's a reason why legitimate breeders wait until at least 2 years of age.
