Hello I own a craftmen DTL 3000 mower , engine stops when I put in gear or let down blades , but run fine in neutral until I let off the brake clutch.

There are at least 3 safety switches on that mower and the seat switch usually goes first. Tell me the actual model number staring with 917. And I'll get you a manual download so you can see all 3 switches.
