Portable HDD Not detecting Or Causing PC to Crash
    Hi All,

I've recently bought a Hitachi NESO 320GB portable HHD. The hardware itself works fine, but it tends to have a bit of a problem getting detected or not crashing the PC. There are usually two situations.

1st: HDD not being detected by both of my PCs at all or it'll only be detected once or twice a day ( by chance) after restarting.

2nd: HDD is detected by my computer, but when transferring files, transfer speed drops from 20MB/s to less than 2MB/s in roughly 10minutes, then it eventually crashes and causes the PC to freeze (task bar and all other apps). When I unplug the USB cable, my PC goes back to normal. After crashing my PC tends to be able to detect there is something plugged in at the port, but not the HDD itself.

I am rather stumped that my PCs can detect there is something plugged in and in Device Management it can identify my HDD but not Disk Management needless to say I rarely can find it in My Computer and use it. I've also tried to reformat it a couple of times, doesn't seem to help. Is there something wrong with my HDD's driver/ hardware or is it my PCs and how can I fix this problem?

    Thanks a lot

Hey, I have a similar problem with the same drive - it works on my laptop (Vista Ultimate) but doesn't on my PC (Also Vista Ultimate!)

    Did you find a fix?
