I don't know for sure since I've never used Ami Pro. However, can Ami Pro write files as RTF (Rich Text Format) files? That seems to be a relatively universal intermediate format. I believe that MS Works can read RTF files.

Many thanks for your help Perito I first have to take the HD out of the PC, buy a caddy, and then connect to laptop. I will then see if I can use your solution.
    Will post later

Do you have Lotus Word Pro? I believe the Ami Pro file was saved as a .sam. Perhaps there is a converter on the web. Word Pro can open an Ami Pro file. You should be able to get a copy of Lotus Smartsuite for nothing on the web.

Many thanks everyone, I have followed your advice and have successfully accessed my old files for the cost of a caddy. Thanks again for your input
