Nothing is coming up on my monitor during start up
Hey guys, so I had an issue with starting my new custom computer up. I fixed that due to a simple wiring flaw. But now when I turn it on, nothing is coming on the screen. I made sure the moniter is plugged in but it just isn't reacting to the computer at all.

Are you sure your monitor is still ion good condition? The previous wiring flaw may have caused a short circuit in the monitor.

Did you turn the monitor itself on?

Might I ask... what is the "wiring flaw" that you fixed? Do you have onboard video AND a video card? What type of video card (slot-wise)? How is the monitor connected to the PC?

Yes I turned the moniter on, the video card is connected it fit in its slot nice and snug. The video card is a radeon hd 4870. The mother board is a gigabyte. It wasn't necessarily a wiring flaw, I just had the power and reset cords in the wrong spot.

Ah, that shouldn't have hurt anything then.

Does the motherboard have on board video? I know sometimes if you have both video on the motherboard, and a video card, you need to change some settings in the BIOS. If you do, try connecting the monitor to the other one and see if anything comes up.

The video card may fit but still not be compatible. Do you know what type of slot the video card went in, and the model number of the motherboard? I just want to make sure there isn't a mismatch :)

    Here's the mother board Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
Here's the video card Newegg.com - XFX HD-487A-ZHFC Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

I just tried my moniter with my old computer and it worked fine so yeah.
