Me and especially my mother are very worried about this problem. Few days ago my mother had sonography (ultrasound) test and the report said that my mother has Endometrial hyperplasia i.e. 12mm thick lining of uterus wall. Her age 68. She had menopause in 53 years of age. The gynecologist said that in this age thickness of the lining of her Uterus wall should be 1mm or so but this is too much and she should go for DNC in which a small part of her uterus will be taken and examined whether it has cancer or not. My mother is very worried about this. She doesn't want to have DNC done and doesn't want to have operation of uterus at all.

So kindly can anybody please tell me whether there is a cure for Endometrial hyperplasia with drugs only. Is removal of uterus harmful in anyway. What should we do. We only want her uterus cured through medication only. PLEASE TELL US THAT HOW MANY CASES OF ENDOMETRIAL HYPERLASIA ARE THERE IN THIS WORLD AND WHAT IS THE PERCENTAGE OF THESE WOMEN WHO Develop CANCER OF UTERUS.

Also my mother is very scared. So what should we do.

Your mother hasn't got anything thata woman hasn't had before, Idrees. She should not be upset, and probably is because she has never had any health issues before, right ? It is normal for the doctor to want a D&C which is curetage and take a sample of the uterine lining as a biopsy to detect any cancer cells. Having this done is not invasive and quite normal and definitely not painful. Probably will be done on an in and out basis at the hospital. Her condition developed because of high esterone/progesterone levels, not unusual at all. Hyperplasia means overgrowth. The endometrium is the inner layer of the uterus.

It sounds like the doctor is suggesting a hysterectomy which is the removal of the uterus. Certainly not uncommon for many reasons and as at 68 you mother doesn't need the baby producing part of her anatomy, then there is no problem having it done.

Can't tell you the percentage of women in the world with this condition.

If your mother wants to be treated, she is still young at 68, Idrees, I suggest she carry on with the suggestions of her doctor. But the two of you must sit down with her doctor, accompanied by a list of questions in order to understand what needs to be done.

Thank you very much for your reply, its very helpful, I read it the next day when you answered but couldn't find time and that is why I am replying so late. My mother has illnesses before as well but she gets worried on little things now after my father's death previous year.

One of the doctor whom we took her too was most probably greedy and wanted to make money as well and that is why she at once told her to have D&C. But we consulted another gynecologist who is very nice. She did office biopsy instead of D&C in which there is no need to make the person sleep. Thanks God her tests were O.K.

So office biopsy is alternative and better way of taking sample of uterus lining as compared to D&C. But D&C may be required in severe cases. But thanks God OFFICE BIOPSY was suitable and the results of tests are O.K.
