    My computer has slowed down to a snail's pace!
    I use a Dell Pentium IV desktop and Windows XP Home Edition. I use a cable connection to the Internet. Recently the computer has gotten so slow that I want to throw it out of the window. I was almost doing better when I was using a dial-up connection. Any suggestions for speeding it up will be gratefully accepted. Thank you.:(

    Download from Free Software Downloads and Reviews - Download.com

    Get these free programs from the site;

    Ccleaner

    Evonsoft Computer Repair

    Startup Optimizer

    Advanced SystemCare

    IObit SmartDefrag

    Free Registry Defrag

    This one you'll have Google to find it, this is a 30 free trial, but you only need use once anyway and it works GREAT! Use this b-4 using the one above called RegistryDefrag.
    jv16 PowerTools 2009

    AVG Anti-Virus (run and ck for virus')

    After running all of the above programs do the following.

    Go to Windows Explorer and 'right' click on your C: drive / go to properties and then 'tools'... click on error checking (it'll run after a restart)

    Next go to start/programs/accessories/system tools/Disk Defragmenter
    And let it run.

    Last if you can afford too (not that much) it is not free... try a program called Memory-Blaster or one like it.

    Last be sure you have at the least 1gig of memory in the computer if not upgrade with more Ram.

    This should help a lot with speeding up your Dell.
