Home lien based on unsecured debt nj
My father served as a cosigner on a private unsecured educational loan in 2002. I've fallen behind on the payments and presently that loan ($43,000) may be in collections. My dad tried taking out a loan and the bank told him there is a lien on his home. Is there any way that I can settle this debt and have that lien removed? My credit is not the best and I would like to settle this debt, hopefully for less than the amount above amount so that the lien on his home is removed. God I am concerned and worried. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can certainly settle the debt and that would remove the lien. Whether you can settle for less than the full amount depends on who holds the debt/lien. I would guess not since they seem to have completed the process and have had a full amount awarded. Just they just have to wait.
