I had a new HVAC unit installed in a 2 story townhouse. The contractor put the new thermostat in the upstairs hall, it was downstairs. Is this up to code. I plan on selling the house and want to make certain the installation is correct.

I can not see any code violation by doing this. But why did he move it?
We had an Apollo system and replaced it with a heat pump and put in a different water heater. They had to run electric to the breaker box in order to install the unit. He said it was too difficult to run the wires downstairs for the thermostat so it was put upstairs. Thank you for answering the question.
