    GE prodigy dryer just hums
I ran the dryer 3 days ago with no trouble. Today, it just hums. I have about a 6 year old GE prodigy (model DPSR483EA1WW). I can't find a manual on line or ways to trouble shoot it. Any ideas of what I can look at to try to figure out what the problem may be?

    Thanks much

The hum might be a frozen motor, though I would expect the thermal overload to kick out. Maybe the motor has burned out. Possibly you're hearing the timer or something similar.

Here's a link to GE's dryer page. Check here for a manual.

Here's a page that shows a breakdown of parts for that dryer.

I think this appears to be an electric dryer. This site has no mention of a heating element so I'm a bit confused on this one.

Here's another parts site. It does have a heater assembly (not that you need that). The motor and pulley assembly is pricey ($185 + shipping).

Thanks, I will see if I can determine if the motor has gone out. I appreciate the links to the manuals and will let you know what I find out.

It was indeed the motor and it was about a $155 for the new one.

    Thanks for the tip
