    Pain in Left foot
I have had pain in my left knee and worse pain in my right foot. particularly on the top section. It feel as if someone has dropped a heavy load on it. They check for arthritis but it came back as negative however the doctor said it was gout.

He has given me painkillers but to be honest it has gone on for so long (about 6 weeks) and is getting no better. I am not convinced it is gout. Any ideas?

I have gout in my left foot and it is something you never get rid of but only control. Painkillers are not going to help, you have to use an antiinflammatory. The pain is really bad at the onset. I find Motrin, Advil, any antiinflammatory over the counter works somewhat, but you mostly have to control it and let it run its course.

Gout is caused by too much uric acid in the blood, detected as part of your blood work. Drinking lots of water to wash the uric acid out helps as well.

If it is gout, the uric acid level in the blood will be much higher than normal. Did he give you any dietary restrictions?

Shellfish was my most frequent cause. I have avoided it for about 5 years with a prescription. The drug can cause kidney damage. I'd rather not use it but the gout was coming back worse each time it occurred and my foot doctor said it leaves damage behind every time you get it.
