I have Craftmade ceiling fan. I bought a generic Harbor Bay ceiling fan light kit. It seemed very straight forward installation, white to white, black to blue, but afterward the light would not work. I know the light bulbs work, I've tested them. The fan still works. On the wall is a multispeed dial for the fan and a switch that controls the upper outlets in the room. I've tried putting the dial on all speeds and testing the light function, but to no avail. Would this speed dial for the fan interfere with the light function? If the fan is working, shouldn't there be a live wire for the light kit? Any suggestions?

How many wires and what colors do you have in the ceiling box? There needs to be three wires, white for neutral, one color from the speed control for the fan, and one from a switch for the light. Or one that is live constantly for the light and use the pull chain to control the light.

I will have to check on that later today. The fan hangs down from a rod, so I'll need to get up there with my ladder and remove the cover and look at what color of wires there are in the ceiling box. I'll get back probably some time in the evening since I've got things going on all day. Thanks for the reply.

Ok! I had a electrician friend from my congregation come over (I did pay him for his help, I don't like asking for freebies). We looked in one ceiling box to see if the wiring for a light kit had even been hooked up. It had been. So, we then looked in the wall box, and lo an behold, there was a wire that was not connected and it was the runner for the light kit wires on the bottom of the fan. We then hooked this free wire up to the switch that controls the upper outlets and everything worked. We found the same situation on both other fans. Everything is now operational.
