    Black material in well water
We have a well that is 15 years old. For the past 4 years we have been getting a sulfur smell and black particles in the water. We chlorinated the well and that stopped it for a while, but it is back. We filter the water coming in from the well, so it must be in the pipes as well as in the well (we are guessing). We have spoken with all our resources in the area here, and have no more ideas what to do. Does anyone have any solution for us... other than selling the house??

I live in Florida where sulfur water is common. What material are your pipes? Surface pump or submersible. Tell me more about these black particles.. Are they hard? Can you squeeze them? Do they smell? Filtering doesn't seem to help sulfur water much. We aerate the water in a holding tank and then pump from there into the house system. Back to you, Tom
