    Flush toilet smelly tub drain!
    Hello!

OK I will try to sum this up...

4 BR 2 BA house about 17 years old... please remember we live in AL......

The previous owner had a 750 gallon fuel tank installed as a septic tank...
We had lived here about 7 months and we started having the toilet in our master BR gurgle when the washing machine drained or we ran the sink or tub for more than a min. also the main bathtub drain would backup grey water when the washer drained (no sewage). We had 2 companies come and give us a guestimate of whet they thought it was. One said field lines, the other said needed the tank pumped. We debated and finally spoke with an older gentleman friend we know about it. He said we needed to add more field lines to our existing ones. They are buried deep and a little soggy around them. OK so we had a friend come out to dig with his tractor to install new lines and we discovered that the washer, sink and tub lines are separate from the septic (not running to it). Illegal I am sure but anyway we ran water down the vent pipe from the roof to check for clogs... the water ran out into our attic through our ceiling out through our kitchen light fixture .

In the T of the vent pipe the bottom was open so everything ran out. It was still vented I think but the bottom was open (Alabama remember) so we capped the open end on the bottom off, installed new grey water field lines and our toilet stopped gurgling!! Yipppeeee!

Now our tub drain in our master BR smells like poo poo when we flush the toilet?? Not hair or grease... POO POO. And also when it rains. The other bathroom is fine (it is further away from the septic system) the sink does not stink either. What the heck is going on??

    HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

    HI Rachel...

I'm betting that there in no PTRAP installed at the tub. To check this, have someone flush the toilet and you listen right up next to the tub drain. If you can hear running water at the tub then there is no trap installed. A trap will need to be installed... see image.

This should stop the sewer gasses from entering the home.

You may also want to check the tub at the other end in the same way... see if it needs a new PTRAP installed... ;)

Let me know what you think here...
