Why does this welder not fit my regular plug?
I just recently bought an arc welder kit... sort of to do small projects... now; not realizing you need a certain kind of outlet to run this welder... perpendicular plug outlet I think it is... having spent two hundred bucks on this machine I now have no money to pay an electrician to be able to come and do stuff to the fuse box and put a new outlet in my garage... is there a way I am able to do this myself with little knowledge of being an electrician.. Am I just able to change the outlet so it accepts this perpendicular plug or do I need to go into the circuit breaker and change breakers within that? When I purchased this product it says 70 amp on the box(does this mean the output?) but says 20 amp 120 volt ac in the book, should I be concerned about this?

A welder like that should be used on a dedicated circuit.

You should have an electrician come in and install a dedicated 120v-20a line with the proper receptacle.

Where did you get the welder? Did they not tell you this?

Yes I believe it says have a dedicated circuit... there are other problems that come into play I guess if you don't... uhhh, would you know how much that would cost to have an electrician come in and do that, and I got the welder at canadian tire, and dude who got it for me just wanted the sale I suppose... that's the life we live in these days... so there really is no way to do this myself?

    Is it one of these?:

If he had a 20 amp circuit with number 12, could he install one receptical for the welder in an existing box and understand he should use, with other loads on that circuit off, by code?

    KISS

Make pigtail - 15 A plug to 20 A socket. Safe, but further limited to mtl thickness
