    Enlarged heart / marfens syndrome
    My son is 21, he was dignoised with marfens syndrone after a bad accident at the age of 16. His pedractric dr. was watching him and his sister when they were toddlers, then retired so I heard nothing more about marfens until the accident. At 17 his lung collasped 3 times, they ended up having to take a small part of his lung out. He has large hands and fingers, large feet and toes, very tall 6' 5 1/2" tall, very skinny. He was just given a physical/drug test from his employer, they notised problems with heart rate, blood pressure etc. he was dent to his doctor for some tests, I know there was a blood test plus a few others. He was told by the doctor he didn't have marfens syndrome, he was healthy except he has an enlarged heart. Then told not to worry about it.
    Question-- should we get another opinion from another doctor?
    Should we worry about an enlarged heart?
    I'm not sure what to do please help, I have 2 kids both were told they have marfens so I'm not sure what to think.
    Also his dads family has marfens syndrome in there family.

    I would ask for a second opinion from a cardiologist.

    There can be many reasons for an enlarged heart. One of the worst is that the heart enlarges because it is working too hard. Damaged heart valves with significant regurgitation can lead to an enlarged heart. This usually has to be repaired surgically.

    Since Marfan's syndrome is inherited, and two of your kids were told that they did have Marfen's and his dad's family has Marfen's, I'd say that there must be at least a fair chance that he does, indeed, have it. However, I'm not a physician and I'm not qualified to diagnose it. It's probably worth asking for a second opinion for this, also -- from a specialist in Marfen's syndrome. At the very least, it'll make you all feel better.
