My fiancé just got a work visa, can we still get married? What do I do?
My fiancé has been in the process of obtaining citizenship for a while now. A few weeks after our engagement, he received notice of getting a work visa. He just went in to get fingerprinted today and will receive his work visa in a few weeks. We had planned on getting married in Sept. What happens now? His lawyer says that the marriage could delay his process another 5 years and cost 10K. Quite frustrated!

I'm sorry, I thought you were asking what country he was from. I am a US Citizen.

If he is in the US and has a work visa, then he is authorized to stay and work in the US. What is he being fingerprinted for? No NIV requires fingerprints. The information provided is contradictory.

If he is here legally, after you marry in September, you file for his permanent residence. The green card process via marriage generally takes 4-6 months, much less expensive than via employment and labor certification. What is the attorney quoting you $10,000 for?

I guess I'm not clear on things either. I will be seeing this lawyer next week if we can get an appointment. Then I will ask the questions myself. Can you give me advice on this? What to ask?
