We just bought a house and are waitting for the 8000.00 tax return we filed it on the 20th of may we were told 2 weeks and it has been three does anyone know really how long I will have to wait ? I tried going to the web site and put in the info and they had nothing with the info I gave them

I understand your anxiety since you are getting such a big refund - must be nice! If you filed electronically, it takes 14-21 days to get your refund. Wednesday is the weekly deadline for processing refunds for electronically filed returns. This means that if you filed your return and it was accepted okay by the IRS, you can expect your refund typically by the 2nd or 3rd Friday following the week you file (dont count the Friday within the week you filed.) It seems you have one more week to go. Refunds are released on thursdays or fridays. If you opted for a direct deposit into a bank account the money will show up usually on Monday or Tuesday after the Friday release. If not, the check (most come from Alabama) will be mailed that Friday and reach you by Monday or Tuesday or latest, Wednesday. So, if it's been only two weeks, be patient, your check is on it's way *this is assuming you don't owe anything to the govt (irs or state govt debt, child support, student loans) if you do they will take out what you owe first.

I filed a 1040x in April for the home credit. I was told by IRS it would be 8-10 weeks. It has been 8 and I am still waiting

Unlike electronically filed returns, amended (or corrected returns) filed on form 1040X take MUCH longer to process - typically 2-3 months. The reason is that these returns are not top priority for the IRS, ORIGINAL returns are #1. The IRS looks at it this way: you've already filed your original return, and are now filing a correction to that original. So, they figure they can take their time, or rather, take care of other original returns first. Here's the order of priority for returns:

Original current year returns (1040A, 1040EZ, 1040)
Original prior year returns (1040X)
Amended current year returns
Amended prior year returns

With the stimulus payment process of the last two years, the IRS has been especially busy of late as this has been additional work for them, so returns are taking even longer to process. Just be patient... kinda forget about the refund... when you least expect it, you will find a nice check in the mail...

Well, I suppose that's ONE way to look at it.

But Antn has it right abot the timeline: you can expect to wait until mid-July at the earliest to get the refund.
