IUD removal when strings too short
I went to get my IUD remove today and the lady was not able to find it. I know I still have it since I haven't had a period in over two years. She told me I will need a surgery to remove it, but first an ultrasound to find it. Is there any other way to remove it with out surgery? Should I try another OB-GYN and see if they could find it? What are the chances that it was "her" not looking right? Is it normal for the IUD to move up out of sight? My main question is HOW CAN I GET IT OUT IF THE STRINGS ARE TOO SHORT TO FIND?

A second opinion can never hurt. Especially when surgery is the next option. But if the next dr tells you "surgery" I'd think surgery really would be your only other option. For now, I'd definitely try another dr though

Hey,the same thing just happened to me recently,I could not find the string and went to the g.p.
g.p could not find the string and sent me into the hospital, the doctor there was easily able to remove it,very uncomfortable but at least he got it out..
I'm not sure if this is any help but the second doctor was much more experienced and I did not need any further treatment.. \
It's a good idea to get it checked out.

Same happened to me as well.

The doctor gave me a local anaesthetic and removed it. Usually it is still in the cervix, otherwise there might have been other problems.

See an obs/gyn to be sure.
