How long should a child nap? And how often?
My son is 19, almost 20 months old and he takes 2 naps a day still. At each nap he will be down for at least 2 hours, sometimes longer. Is this normal? Should I let him sleep this long? He is a great kid, and is rarely fussy. He eats good meals and has only been sick 3 times in his life. Should I continue letting his nap like this? So many of my friends said their kids stopped 2 naps at around a year? But I hear it's good for kids to sleep..? I am just confused. Lol:confused::)

Typically, a toddler starts converting over from two naps a day to one at about 18 months some earlier, some later. Let your child determine what is appropriate, if you are overly concerned discuss it with your doctor.

Be thankful. The more a child sleeps the better... and not just for YOUR sanity.

Studies show that children that nap more during the day actually sleep better at night too.

Your son will let you know when 2 naps a day is too much. It will be a sad day for you, by the way. :-D

My son took 2 naps a day until he was about one. Now at 2, he takes one... but it's very long. He often will sleep for 4 hrs; sometimes more. But guess what, he still sleeps 12-13 hrs uniterrupted every single night. So I don't worry. He's very active and he knows that he's tired so he sleeps. He's on a very regular schedule and that's my main concern, that his patters aren't erratic.

Thanks everyone. He does sleep 12-13 hours at night as well... so I am not too concerned. I was just curious if this should be something I should be weening him off..? But I guess until he starts school, I will let my little angel sleep... lol Thanks:):D

Here's a word I got from the 'older' generations: Never wake a sleeping baby
