What do you think about Politics? I met a great girl, we seem to click on every aspect in our lives, except politics. I am conservative, she is more liberal. I get kind of touchy thinking about it, but we haven't discussed it since we initially mentioned it. I told her that I felt a certain way about certain things and she said she felt more liberal because she is more inclinded to seeing the government help people.

Should I just avoid politics and go with everything else or do you think that it matters? I am on the fence about it.. I mean, I can look the other way, but its frusterating when I don't feel I can say what's really on my mind about the choices our country is making on things. For example.. the Amtrack / GM money dump we are throwing.. stuff like that frusterates me but I don't know if we see eye to eye.


Has anyone ever dated someone who is opposite on the political debate? Any experiences or advice?

The fact that you are letting politics get in the way of your feelings for her, means that you're pretty hardcore about your views. Maybe she's the exact type of girl you need. Different views on politics will help you balance each other out.

I respect everyone's different point of view. Whether it's my parents, significant other, siblings, friends, etc. What matters is how you feel when you are around them, not who they are going to vote for in the next election.

In a relationship sometimes you have to agree to disagree. At one end of the spectrum you shouldn't have to feel like you can't talk about things, but at the other end, you don't have to necessarily voice your opinions about everything. Politics could be something that you talk with other people about.

No no... not together... not even dating.. we are considering dating.. were in the courting process if that makes sense.. It was one of those things like this:

Oh you like animals? Me too! Oh you like this, yah me too.

Everything matching up...

Then she was like what's your political views. I told her, then I am like how about you, she tells me, and so that's where we are.


I haven't given it a chance for or against. I am just wondering how important it really is. I mean, I do feel strongly about my views, so maybe I do need a balance in my life on the opposite direction.

I am willing to give her a chance and look the other way, I just want to figure it out before I commit to anything else.. I don't want to have 20 dates and then look back and think about politics and say, OK I changed my mind, peace out. I want to confront my inner thoughts now and hash out how I feel before I involve her.

Normally I don't even TALK politics. Its like a cardinal dating no no, but at the same time, she asked me, so maybe she knows that she thinks differently than me.

We met at church where most people are conservative, so maybe she wanted to get it out there before so it could be resolved now.

There is nothing to resolve. Political views are opinions, nothing more. It has nothing to do with morals, religion, or anything else. I am passionate about sports, and I have NEVER dated a girl that likes the same collegiate team that I do, yet it is what it is. I would find it hard to not date someone based upon who they voted for in the last election. Perhaps you should lighten your conservative attitude up a bit, and just go for it.

There are certain things I just don't talk about very often as I get heated about them and it turns into an all out yelling contest. You have your opinions, she has hers, hey look, you are both human! One more thing in common, so let it be and see where it goes.

In all the girls I've dated politics was never an issue. I guess it never creeped up since we consider a matter of opinion.
