    Replace toilet in basement
If you are replacing a toilet on a cement floor in a basement but expect to eventually tile the floor, do you replace the toilet first and then tile or do you tile first and the replace the toilet? Any other tips would be appreciated.

    Remove old toilet.

    Tile and grout floor.

Add extender to mounting ring to make even with top of tile.

Install new toilet with new wax seal.

    Good luck

You can go at this in 2 ways depending on when you want to tile. If you are ready to tile now then lay your sub floor and then tile. This will likely raise your floor height about 3/4" . If the toilet flange is below the new height then use toilet flange spacers to bring it up to flush with the floor. Your flange could also be 1/8" above flush and a single wax ring will handle the space. Otherwise replace the toilet now and lift it later when tiling. I think an unasked question here is does the tile go under the toilet or butt againist it, and the answer is under.

I agree with posts above: it looks better if toilet sits on the tile. Do not try to raise the closet ring as suggested in response #1. Use spacers.

    Sorry Wrong wording. Meant spacers.
