Goodman time delay fan relay problems
    Hello,
I have a goodman system and it freezes up when blower fan stops working. I have been told told it is the goodman time delay fan switch.

Does this sound correct.. How much to fix and is it a diy project..

    Thanks in advance.. :)

Get us the model of your unit. But if it is indeed the fan relay not the motor itself then odds are you will need to replace the contolr board in the blower compartment.

    Model is either a: HKR-05 or a AR-18.

I had a service tech out and he said the contacts go bad and he thought this was it. He couldn't find anything else.

The system would freeze up when blower fan stopped working. It works after I stop and start unit. The system was installed in 2002.

He also said if he had to replace the "contacts/switch", it would be with another type/manufacturer.

Not sure what he meant by contacts. So your problem is the blower motor will just stop for no reason? But the it will come back on as soon as you reset the unit?

I also was told to use: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS #60000COCO-2

The system will ice up. Then I discover the blower fan was not working. Service tech told me this is a common goodman problem.

Sounds to me like it is the control board. Should cost anywhere from $65 to $150 depending on if it is a common board or a uncommon one. If you do not get the exact some wire may be a tad bit different. Did your system not come with a 10 yr warranty?

My gut is in agreement with Josh. If the contactor was bad it would not work after power cycling. But that's been known to work for control boards.

Check the manufacturing plate, or call Goodman with your serial number to see.

The same thing happened for me. Time Delay Relay stopped ticking occasionally (stay off). The replacement part, B1370738, is something between $14 to $50+ depend on the supplier +Shipping. Air1Supply had this in stock, $13.99 and free shipping.
Replacing the part is really easy but make sure to shut off all power breakers before touching the terminals.

The Goodman air handler AR 18-1 doesn't not have an electronic control board. The fan relay is the problem. Fan is supposed to start about 10 seconds after thermostat calls for cooling or heating. When thermostat is satisfied, the relay will loose its power but maintain the fan motor contact for about 90 seconds. This give better economics as the coil inside the air handler still contains either heating or cooling gas that can be used if air is moving. When the fan does not start due to this bad relay, the coil inside ices up because of no air flow. Same thing happens if your air filter is extremely dirty.

Make sure the switch on the thermostat that is labeled "fan on, fan auto" is in the auto position.
