Help me before I zap myself. I am hooking up a Hunter fan with a light. It has four wires from the fan, a white, black, black with white stripe and a green ground. It is being connected to a fixture that is controlled by an existing wall switch. The fixture has ground, 3 white wires and 3 black. Currently the white wires are all capped together,2 black wires are together and 1 black is by itself. How do I connect the fan wires to be able to turn the fan on by the connecting wall switch. Thanks.

So, just so we get this straight, you want to be able to control the light and fan together or separately? The fan black is for the fan motor and the balck w/ white strip is for the light kit. Whites are your neutral and go to both, green is ground.

Is light going to be on pullchain? If you don't need the light, cap the black/white on fan.

Going to use pull chain for light. Just want to figure out how to hook it up to all those wires so the wall switch associated with electric for fan will work. I can leave light or fan on and turn the power off from the wall switch. Thanks

Then the fan to the single black and black/white from fan to 3 blacks tied together(constant hot). The single black is switched.

Well if you are happy with this pull chain then your problems are solved but we might have been able to have two switches in that one switch box on the wall, we'll never know. I was confuse from the start with the description. In one sentence you told us the wires from the fan and then told us aboout the old fixture, we never heard what wires ran from the box. We could have also showed you how to install a remote that would control everything without aadding more wires.

Try:

Connect fan (black wire) or light (striped) to the single black, WHICHEVER ONE YOU WANT CONTROLLED BY THE WALL SWITCH

Connect the other wire (black or striped) to the cluster of blacks.

White to whites.

Green to ground. Tell us if it works.
