    Expungements and pardons
My grandson was convicted in Indiana. I posted another question regarding this.
Can someone explain the difference between expungements and pardons? And maybe provide a little insight into this. I am his grandmother. We were going to see about having him in the army, until he messed up.
But I've been reading the questions and answers on this, and perhaps there is more we could be doing to get this off his record so he could go into the service.
He is a good kid, and only messed up once.

    Hello G:

An expungment only HIDES the conviction. It CAN be viewed by the cops and it CAN be used to further enhance any future conviction. An expungment won't prevent the ARMY from seeing it.

A pardon, on the other hand, removes the conviction from the known universe. It's like the conviction NEVER happened.

I'd try for a pardon, if I was you.

Thank you so very much for the information. Is there any where I can go to to find out about pardons? I cannot afford an attorney.
