Kenmore Elite washer is only a couple of years old and will not call for the water to fill. If I put the temperature control on hot, then it will fill with hot water ONLY.

I actually had the same problem. In my case I was using the flood safe hoses (washer hoses that shut down in the case of a leak) and they had malfunctioned. Any chance you're using similar hoses?
